I'm not a swim suit model, damn it!

Last night I had to go to a dinner/banquet type deal that the Sealy mattress company was putting on for my company. Free drinks, free food, free entertainment, etc, etc. They were schmoozing us. Anywhere there's free food and drinks--I'm there. Luckily, I showed up late and missed the whole presentation, but I got there just in time to have dinner. Plus, its a good opportunity to talk to other people in the region that I haven't seen in a while and meet new ones.

After the meal, the boring people left and the rest of us stayed to drink and be merry. Honestly, though, I didn't drink much: not only did I have a 25 min. drive home down the freeway waiting for me, but I had to work the next day, too. So I'm hanging out at a pool table with my good friend and co-worker, and a guy walks up, introduces himself and started with the small talk. After a bit, he leans in and asks "So, I heard you were a Tampa Bay Buckaneer cheerleader, and you were swim suit model. So what was that like?"

Naturally I'm thinkin' to myself "WTF is he talking about?" My girlfriend winks at me and decides to go a long with this. She starts regaling him about her days as a freakin' pro football cheerleader and I'm stuffin' chips and salsa in my mouth trying to muffle my responses.

And then the next guy.

And the next.

Apparently, someone told them about our "past lives" and every knucklehead in the region is trying to by us drinks because of "what they heard."

Okay, Julie is thinking this shit is hilarious and I'm worrying about how this is going to affect my chances at getting a promotion. Meanwhile, my boss is getting wasted. I told him to layoff the shots because he had to work the next day. He said it'd be fine. Of course when I came in to work this morning, he looked like shit. ^^ Aahhh... I love it.

At any rate, we still haven't figured out who the culprit is. But I think I know. Of course he laughed and denied it.

Sushi

I made this header image for the LJ layout of my good friend, crystalespers recently. She wanted something cute, pink and Japanese-y. It was a lot of fun to make, and she really likes it, so I'm pleased. As it turns out, she's never had sushi before. (=_=;)

This was kinda fun

LJ Interests meme results

boondocks:
Its a hilarious comic and a great show. Actually, I like the comic even more. Huey and Riley are adorable. ^^

de-phazz:
Awesome acid jazz, lounge group. There music is beautiful and amazing. Check'em out!

fashion:
What girl doesn't love fashion? Well, I'm sure there are some out there that don't, but that's not what we're talking about here.... right?

jet li:
He's fine as hell, talented as all get out and an excellent martial artist. I love him.

lamb:
Not the animal, the group--well, the animal is tastey too, but that's not what I had in mind. Lamb is a wonderful group. The vocals are sublime and the music is enchanting.

maya deren:
Anyone that has Maya Deren in their interests gets a cookie. She's a pretty obscure reference. She was an amazing mid 20th century, avant-garde, independent film maker, dancer and anthropoligical researcher. She was beautiful and intense. Google her. Now! ^_^

oyaji:
Er... um, yeah. I love, love stories that feature older men, AKA, "oyaji". That's all I'm going to say about that.

shounen ai:
It's cute. But it's really not my favorite.

thai food:
Sooooooo yummy! I could live on the stuff. The very first Thai restaraunt I ever went to was "Rama Thai on Post", in Seattle. I had the "Rama Noodle Supreme". Within an instant, I was hooked!

zora neale hurston:
Black female writer and anthropologist from early to mid 20th century. Very inspiring woman. Her works include "Tell My Horse", "Jona's Gourd Vine" and "They're Eyes Were Watching God". A remarkable woman she was.

Enter your LJ user name, and 10 interests will be selected from your interest list.

Mystery Characters Revealed

If you're curious, check it out. ^^

For some time now, crystalespers and I have been wondering who these two characters, Lunch and Spooky, are that appear in Naono Bohra's online gallery. Well, I finally decided to do some research about it.

Lunch and Spooky are from the RPG, Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers--which is part of the ongoing Shin Megami Tensei, RPG series. It was originally on the Sega: Saturn in 1997, and was later ported to the Playstation in 1999. There were plans for it to be released in North America, but at the last minute, Sony changed their minds, much to the disappointment of many eager American fans.

Naono Bohra and her doujin circle partner, Naomi Watari, have created several Soul Hacker: Lunch & Spooky doujins, but they seem to be quite rare, as I have been able to find only a minute amount of information about them. If anyone knows any substantial information about these doujins, please let us now. We'd love to add them to our collection. ^^

Just so you know, Lunch is the guy with the dreads, and Spooky, is, of course, the other guy. ^_^

Chuck E. Cheese's: Casino for Kids?

I know that Chuck E. Cheese's is the place "Where a Kid can be a Kid!" but every time I see a commercial for this place, I think "kid's casino".

When I was little, Chuck E. Cheese wore a red derby, a vest and a bow tie. Now he wears a bike helmet, knee and shoulder pads, and rides around on a skateboard to appeal to the modern market. When you went to Chuck E. Cheese's back in the day, you played Whack-A-Mole, arcade games, jumped around in a pit of plastic balls, and ate pizza while watching giant, animatronic animals in clothes, sing songs and play jug band music. Fun times. -__-

Now kids gamble away tokens, for tickets, for cheap crap. How does this all work? Well basically, the parents buy the tokens. The kids insert the tokens into exciting "games of chance." If they beat the odds and "hit", they'll be rewarded with tickets. They then carry their giant, plastic cup full of tickets over to a little ticket redeming shop. There they can choose junk to take home based on the amount of tickets they are redeming. For example, 25 tokens may get you a whaky-wall-walker; 150 might get you a dazzling, metal band digital watch. Snazy.

The point is, is that kids love it, the same way adults love gambling in casinos. It's set up pretty much the same way: Chuck E. Cheeses is a noisy, busy environment filled with neon lights flashing, bells and whistles chiming, plenty of food and drink, and games of chance to loose money on... Oh, and of course the obligatory stained, red carpeting on the floor. It's exciting, dangerous and provactive. What more could a child or adult want in a money loosing pit?

Now, I'm not trying to say that starting kids off early with gambling is a bad thing. It's simply something interesting to observe.
